It’s been another eventful year for Springloaded in our little part of the world we call home. We’ve done some fantastic work, lost out on some fantastic work, but grown for the experience.
As South Africa’s digital economy and broadband grows – albeit slowly – and the proliferation of mobiles soars, I begin to understand and realise that there is so much potential for this country of ours. We have the ability to shape and direct trends and experiences that will define our digital strategy for years and decades to come. It truly is an exciting time for us and for those who are passionate, who have the courage to stay and deliver, who want to make a real difference in how we present and consume content and information, the rewards are staggering.
South Africa, consumers and business owners alike are starting to wake up to the real power of being online, the savings that it can produce, the realtime conversations that are being had (for bad and for good) and the global reach that being part of this digital community gives us. No matter what the excuses – our broadband is too slow, the market is too small, clients are not educated – we need to stop accepting poor quality work and service, especially in the digital space. We have the talent, the opportunity and the obligation, no matter how small the budget, to create the best work we can.
I’m really looking forward to 2013 and what it brings (an improved outlook on the economy he says hopefully), but the digital world changes so quickly though, sometimes from week to week, that it’s always interesting to think about where we might be in 12 months time! And if the Mayan’s have any say in the matter we may not be anywhere…
To all our clients, thanks for coming on this journey with us in 2012 and we’re looking forward to the challenges of 2013!
PS I’ve attached this video for no other reason than I love the style and animation.
